Knowledge management
In certain companies, organizations, administrations, the knowledge
management is the object of an inventory, a structuring and specific reformat
treatments.
- In this case there is generally a " nomenclature
of knowledge " with entries comprising a name and a description
(one to several lines).
- Each entry of this " nomenclature " is a
pointer on one or more " object(s) of knowledge " which can be:
- a project, a realization...
- a document (minutes of meeting, declaration of
nonconformity...)
- a procedure
- an image
- a film
- an address URL...
- In this case, this " nomenclature of knowledge
" can be regarded as a registry and all the services applying to the
dictionaries or registries are applicable. (cf Dictionaries
and registries)
Often this " nomenclature of knowledge " is not up to date, is not
complete, not sufficiently reliable (or does not exist straightforwardly). In
this case also, the knowledge management (and its accesses) can be done through
the BSR semantic tool (completed
with other modules - in particular a module of " full text" indexing-).
- All knowledge in textual form is "integrated"
in the BSR semantic tool without preliminary work of reformat or
structuring or summary writing.
- The functionalities of analysis, comparison,
extraction, multilingual interrogation... of the tool can be used.
Structuring of a base of knowledge
- starting from a target tree structure (or a model)
- proposal for a classification of the whole of the
texts of the base of knowledge in this tree structure or this model.
Comparison of knowledge bases, (use of the BSR
semantic tool)
- Mapping of knowledge bases
- For each desired topic (expressed by words or
a sentence), list of the texts of the various knowledge bases
consulted (with the indication of the paragraph and the words
close semantically to the required topic).
- Of course certain topics can not have any
correspondence in the consulted knowledge bases.
Multilingual access to the knowledge bases (use of the BSR
semantic tool)
- The accesses are generally done by:
- key word (in the language of the base of knowledge)
- and/or advance in a tree structure or a model
(family, under family or class, attribute...)
- A complete alternative (or simply a complementary
possibility) is the interrogation in " English or French natural
language "
- the user expresses his research by words or by a
sentence, the BSR semantic tool indicates the texts " close
" to the question
- not simply texts having the same character
strings
- but also texts comprising of the elements
having the same significance or a close significance (classified
by descending order with the indication of the paragraph and the
words close semantically to the question)
- the question can be put in a language different
that that from the knowledge bases (in French for English bases or
English to question French bases)
Management of knowledge bases
- Use of the BSR semantic tool for the creation or the
modification of entries:
- to avoid the duplications (to keep the more "
interesting " text)
- to remove the obsolete texts (example of the
procedures, security instructions...)
- proposal for a positioning of the new text (or the
modified text) in the tree structure or the model if they exist
- mapping of the new text with external knowledge
bases...
- The BSR semantic tool allows also to trace the
evolutions of knowledge on a given subject.
- The use of the BSR semantic tool for the knowledge
management avoids the heavy work of structuring and reprocessing of the
information which is necessary in a " traditional management "
of knowledge bases. These treatments are made reluctantly by the people
" creating the knowledge " and when they are made by thirds, the
relevance of the reprocessing is not always optimal and the costs are very
significant.
